Five Proven Methods for Internet Marketing Success

There are hundreds of ways that you can promote your online business or website, some more effective than others. These five proven methods will help you to generate traffic to your site and also to generate income into your wallet.

  1. One thing that appeals to everyone is “free.” If it is free people will take it. Think of the samples of cheese given away at grocery stores. Do you really want a small piece of cheese? Of course not! But you take it simply because it is free and someone is nice enough to offer it to you. The same principle applies with information or services offered from your website. You can send out free newsletters or offer a free trail period. One popular thing that is being given away now are free credit reports or free PC scans. These freebies are what we in the marketing field like to call teasers. After running the free credit report or PC scan we alert the customer if there is something found on their credit record or PC and then offer to show them what it is or repair the problem for a price. This can be an effective way to get information to your potential customers, create sales or to generate traffic to your site.
  2. Your website contains information about a service or product that you are very knowledgeable about. You can use this knowledge to generate traffic to your site by writing articles in your area of expertise and having them published in an ezine or an article information site. The most effective way to use these articles is to write them for free and ask in return that the publisher allow you to include a byline. A byline is a very short summary of the author, their credentials and their website. Your byline is a way that readers will come to know you as an expert on the topic and will in turn come to trust your site as a source of credible information.
  3. Some search engines will allow a website to purchase their ranking. This is an excellent Internet marketing technique in that it is effective and inexpensive. In the pay-per-click programs, website are only billed for those who actually visit the page, unlike banner ads which may be seen by millions but only used by a few. When using the pay-per-click program you are asked to choose keywords and when those are entered your site will appear and if the surfer chooses to view your site, you are billed for that click. Many pay-per-click programs will offer other benefits as well, such as updated lists of commonly used keywords.
  4. You should remember that others are in the same boat as you. You can choose to network with those who have similar marketing ideas. When networking you will be able to share links and refer customers to each other. You should always be very cautious when choosing a networking partner as everything that you recommend is a reflection of yourself or your product and therefore, you should be certain that your networking partner is a reputable source of information.
  5. Simply because your website is online, doesn’t mean that all your advertising should be. Advertise in newspapers, TV, the radio or you can even send out a press release to get your information to thousands of people all over the country.

Beginner’s Guide To Site Promotion

Promoting a web site is no real easy task for anyone, including the Internet promotion experts. It’s even harder for those of you with little or no experience with web site promotion. In an effort to help those of you that need help in this area I have wrote this article or guide (Call it whatever you like!). Although this is by no means a complete guide, this will show you the basics of promoting a web site.

Search engine optimization – When a Internet user searches for something that is somehow related to your web site, you want your web site to come up as near to the top of the search results in the search engines as possible, right? Of course, you do. But how do you get to the top of the search results? Well, it’s easier said then done, but can be done if you follow the few simple tips below.

You need to take a close look at your site and decide which search terms people will use to find it. Example, your site is about dogs, you’ll want to come up under keywords such as dog information, dog facts, etc. You need to pick your most important keyword and try to get a keyword density between 5 and 15%, this depends on which search engine you are targeting though. Important keywords should also appear in bold and be one of the first words on the web page

The most important thing is to get is backlinks. But not just from any web site, but from ones that are related to yours and those that look clean, or otherwise the ones that don’t use Spam techniques. You also want the backlinks you get to look like they are natural to the search engines, so one-way links are best and increase your backlinks slowly and not get them all at once. Your anchor text should vary, using the same one too many times won’t look natural to the search engines.

The web site’s structure will decide how the spiders read your web site. You want there to be more text content then HTML content. Stay away from using Java or Flash heavily on your web site, the less you use on the site the better. Spiders (Also known as robots) cannot read Java or Flash. You should avoid programs such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver, they often add coding errors.

After that you may want to submit your web site to the search engines, this isn’t important if you get links from web sites that already appear in the search engines and by submitting will not help your ranking or speed up the time it takes for your web site appear in the search results. Some suggest that submitting to the search engines instead of letting them find you can hurt your ranking, but this is highly unlikely.

Links – As you now know getting links can help you in the search engines, but they can also bring in tons of traffic and not just any traffic, but some of the best traffic you can get. You should submit to directories such as Yahoo! and the ODP (Open Directory Project). Even better, try topic related directories, they send VERY targeted traffic compared to most other sources. Contact web sites that are related to yours and ask if they’ll exchange links.

Award Programs – Although this can be a waste of time if you bother with all those web sites (Most won’t send any traffic) that offer awards, but if you pick the right ones and have a web site that offers something useful, this could send you great deal of traffic for many years to come. Most of these award programs will link back to your web site if you are one of the award winners.

Paid Advertisement – Of course, you can pay another web site to display your advertisement. The cost depends on a number of things, such as amount of traffic they get and where your advertisement is placed at. PPC (Pay per click) search engines such as Google AdWords and Yahoo! Overture is an another posable option. You only pay when someone clicks on your ad and often the traffic they send is highly targeted. This may be the best option out there right now.

Offline Marketing – Most people don’t even look into this and many think it’s a waste of time, but they are very wrong. Use word of mouth by telling your friends and colleagues about your site, you can hand out cards and flyers to generate good word of mouth. Take your flyers and put them up at local stores, collages and Laundromats, but make sure they are OK with you adding your flyer first though.

Look into placing an ad in the local newspaper, this is often cheap, so you can’t lose much money here, but then again you may not be able to lose much. Although Radio has died out because of CDs, Internet and paid radio, it’s still one of the best places to advertise offline because it’s cheap and can reach a number of people. You may have to look into AM radio depending on your web site’s subject.

Don’t even try it! – Of course, no promotion guide would be complete without pointing out things you shouldn’t use to promote your web site. Do not send email Spam, unsolicited e-mail is not acceptable, it’s likely the most hated part of the web. Spamming will make more people hate your web site than like it, thereby making you lose could have been customers.

Don’t try to Spam the search engine, most web sites get caught right away, while some may not get caught right away, they will get caught sometime down the road. Remember that the search engines are always changing the ways they ranks web sites and are getting smarter (Although at times that seems hard to believe), so you will get caught if you try to Spam them.

Don’t open your web site to the pubic before you have tested (Links, coding errors, etc.) it completely and know it’s working correctly. Make sure every section of the web site is completed. Most Internet users will never return to a web site where they find a section of a web site that isn’t completed or see an under construction sign.

Tune-Up your website; DIY SEO

Everyone wants their websites to rank high; Page-Rank is the perfect way to demonstrate authority, credibility and presence. While it does show the strength of your website, it doesn’t mean you’re making money much less profits. So what must an aspiring Internet Proper SEO practices do increase a website’s rank, but don’t lose sight of the big picture which is to make money.

Using your Keywords and Blogs

As long as your blog is original and has an audience, it will increase your website’s ranking, providing essential backlinks and comment exchanges which most search engines eat-up while ranking you. For SEO, there is no better way to acquire these links and every backlink is another positive contributor to your Internet Marketing. Just remember to stay “white hat” with these links and only use reputable sites, Google will recognize low quality links and penalize you for having them.

The right keywords can make or break the search engine rankings your website receives, the same goes for your blog. Keep titles and entries relevant and provide keyword entries in the domain name and body of text. This way search engines will easily find your blog posts and rank them quicker and higher. This is the reason that keyword optimization should be used in every article posted on your site, without keywords search engines become confused about your site and topic.

Once you have your primary keywords, start optimizing all content on your site and remember to not over do it. In the past I have heard the use of one keyword in some form at least 10 times is considered best practice; I think that is horrendous. I understand getting a message across with subtlety, subtext or captivating content, repetition is a weakness easily detected by search engines. Place primary keywords in the title of your post and your URL; keep titles short, descriptive and precise making it search engine friendly.

  • Using the H1, H2, and H3 tags in Word Press publishing platform with subheadings that contain your keywords will help you get ranked quicker by search engines, use related keywords within your content and articles to avoid repetitiveness and redundancy.
  • Your anchor texts should be the next focus when writing, including them makes for good SEO practices and quickly advises search engines what your site is all about. Aside from using anchor texts as backlinks, you can also link posts together helping your website rankings and presence.
  • As you can see, search engine optimization (SEO) is indeed helpful in getting your site ranked. And a part of this good practice also involves regular updating of your site through the posting of informative and useful articles.

6 Quick Ways to Boost performance on an established Adwords account

Learning to please Google is the name of the game when it comes to SEO, and in spite of the fact that SEO is a rapidly changing world that can feel difficult to keep abreast of, Google actually want us to do the right things online and they have tools that can help us to optimize our content and our webpages. Webmaster Tools is a free Google platform that absolutely anybody who has a website or is concerned with SEO should be aware of. Through this platform, you can learn a great deal about your site, where you are going wrong with it, and how you can improve it to impress Google and boost your Page Rank.

Logging in to Webmaster Tools is easy. You simply log in with your Google account, which you will invariably have already. You then just enter your website URL and you will find yourself with access to lots of incredibly valuable information. If you have never used this tool before, the first thing that you should do is ensure that Google is crawling your site. This basically means that you need to let Google know that your website is online, that you are regularly updating content, and that you demand to be followed. To do this, click on Sitemaps under Optimization and add a Sitemap. Job done – you have taken a really simple step that could dramatically boost your SEO efforts.

Something that Google really hates page errors on your site, and because Google people are a smart bunch, they can tell when your site is showing up with 404 errors. Google hates this because it diminishes the user experience on a website, and if your website shows page errors, your site will be penalized. By using the Google Webmasters tool, you can scan your entire site to look for errors. The process is quick, accurate, and will give you the information that you need to fix the errors and better your site.

We all know that back-linking is an important part of the SEO process, but creating links from just any source will not give you SEO power. In fact, if there are a lot of poor, spammy links Google will penalize your site for linking to. With Webmaster tools, you can detect and disavow “bad links” that are connected to your website and then try to create an improved back-linking profile.

When you need professional help there are plenty of service providers that deliver improved site performance, usability and remove ongoing issues or SQL viruses. Once your website is tested for usability, your conversion rates for Ecommerce and lead-generation website marketers will enjoy steady increases in conversion percentages and stabilize your spend.

If you manage multiple AdWords accounts you may find yourself pressed for time with some large accounts taking several hours to optimize. Here are some I take to ensure “quick wins” on my client paid search account.

  1. Make sure your conversion tracking is set up correctly – If initial results look too good to be true or your not seeing your campaign conversions, 1st thing to do is to see if conversion code is being applied properly.

If you’re currently not using conversions tracking its important that you do so, to add conversion tracking to your campaign; go to tools—à conversions.

If your statuses appear as unverified in Tracking Status or no conversions reported within 30 days, your conversion code may be missing on the page.

If you see an unusual conversion rate increase -50% or more- it could be a sign your conversion code is on the landing page instead of the “thank you” page after a customer sale or lead form has been completed.

  1. Run keyword reporting – If conversion tracking is placed properly and your seeing clicks but no conversions go to your “keywords” tab –à details à search terms –à All, this will show the search terms your ads are showing for.

When you’re bidding for “broad match terms” this is critical since your ads could be showing for unrelated terms. Google listing unrelated products or services is common and can easily be eliminated by clicking on the “add as a negative keyword button”.

When the keyword is not relevant to the entire campaign, you can add it as a “campaign negative keyword”.

If the keyword could work for some ad groups but not others, you can just add it as a negative keyword for that ad group.

Check to make sure your campaign is not opted into the display network – By default AdWords auto-selects search networks with display select, so make sure to update it to just search network only.

Check for broken links and make sure all links on your ads and ad extensions are current and functioning. There is nothing worse than losing money and potential clients due to a slip up like broken links.

Look at your “Dimensions tab” – Set your time frame for the last 4 months and look at the dimensions report to review how your campaign is performing during certain times of the month and day. You can then take this information and use it to set a custom schedule with bid adjustments by hour day or month, changing bids up or down depending on performance.

Look at keyword performance – Go to your keywords tab and select a time frame of at least 3 months and look over keyword performance, you may notice keywords that have obtained conversions at a lower cost per conversion. Try increasing bids by $1-$2 on these keywords and monitor their performance over the next few weeks for any changes. If other keywords maintain a sub-$100 cost over a 3-month period, increase bids for these keywords and monitor as well. If a keyword has spent over $300 in the past 3 months without conversions, pause and research keywords further.
